Grade 5 & 6 (Boys)
Term 1 Examination was conducted from October 4th till 14th. This examination helped students to monitor and improve their learning, with the help of teacher feedback.
Grade 7 & 8 (Girls)
Thematic Assembly titled ‘International Day of Non Violence’ was held on October 1st. The purpose of this assembly was to highlight the importance of peace and non -violence. Students read quotes of important leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther and H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and took a pledge to maintain peace in this world. It helped to instill moral values like peace, harmony and love with one another.
Grade 7 & 8 (Boys)
A Special Assembly titled ‘Non-Violence Day’ was held on October 1st. During this assembly, grade 8 division ‘P’ presented the topic. They highlighted the life, freedom struggle and non-violence movement of Gandhiji. It was an opportunity for them to reflect the importance of non-violence in present world. It also helped them learn about origin and importance of non-violence.
Picnic to Aquaventure Water Park- Atlantis was planned on November 1st and completed on October 31st due to sudden holiday declaration. Students were accompanied by their teachers. They enjoyed their full day in the park and returned with a fresh mind. It was an opportunity for student-teacher bonding, adjustment in a new environment and entertainment.
Grade 9 (Girls)
Inter - House Calligraphy Competition (Hindi / French) was held on October 17th. This competition aimed to enhance the students’ handwriting skills. They took part enthusiastically and three best entries were selected by the respective teachers. Results yet to be announced.
Grade 9 & 10 (Girls)
Periodic Test 2 was conducted from October 4th till 14th. The objective of this test was to assess the students understanding of the operations learnt, evaluate their achievements in each subject and identify their attainment & progress. Online declaration of results on 14th November 2018.
Grade 10 (Girls)
Inter - House Poetry Writing Competition (Hindi / French) was held on October 17th. During this competition, students wrote their respective poems on the topics given on the spot. Their talent and confidence was uplifted as they went on to pen down their innovative ideas which further enhanced their thinking & learning skills. They took part enthusiastically and three best entries were selected by the respective teachers. Results yet to be announced.
Grade 9 & 10 (Boys)
Periodic Test was from October 4th till 14th. Students wrote their Periodic Test. Portion tested was from April to September. Periodic assessment can give pupils high-quality feedback that helps them understand what they have learnt across the curriculum for a subject; this is an opportunity to improve their motivation by encouraging them to reflect on their achievements. They will also be able to see what they need to do to improve and make further progress.
International Day of Non-Violence and Anti Bully Awareness was planned on October 3rd and rescheduled on October 31st. The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on October 2nd, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. This day is referred to in India as Gandhi Jayanti. Students presented a skit and a video depicting the importance of non-violence and also the types of bullying.
Grade 11 & 12
SciScape was conducted on October 9th. Students of the science stream participated in this daylong event which showcased their innovative & creative thoughts and ideas in the various segments like project exhibition, science quiz, movie making on a scientific invention, debate and research paper presentations. The working model exhibition was a treat to the audience. Inter disciplinary and real life applications of the science topics were well exhibited. Collaborative, innovative and creative work was showcased. It was an integration of all science subjects to develop an innovative product or thought in order to serve mankind.
Grade 11 & 12 (Girls)
Unit Test was conducted from October 2nd till 16th for grade 11 and Mid Term Test was conducted from October 4th till 31st for grade 12. These tests helped to check the progress of grade 11 in learning a unit / chapter by writing a test of twenty marks in forty minutes and to check the progress of grade 12 in learning of the completed topics till date by writing a paper of fifty marks in two hours. It aimed to achieve progress in learning.
Metanoia activity was organised by Humanities Department on October 7th & 8th. This interdisciplinary event involved various activities such as Musical, Mime, Dance, Moot Court, Psycon, Stalls, Auction and more. It created awareness among students regarding various humanities subjects. It also helped to provide them interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
Psycon (Pysche@Work, A Colloquium) program was conducted on October 8th. The objective of this program was to introduce students to a broad spectrum of creativity & hands on experience and building passion for the pioneering branch of psychology in the form of several interesting & challenging activities. The forum consisted of three main activities - research paper, debate and experiment stall.
Fortnight Delite was held on October 11th. During this activity, nutritious items like energy boosters and refreshing colourful salad were sold. The sales revenue goes to the Chairman’s Welfare Fund. It also aimed to introduce the concept of a nutritious meal in a student’s life with fun & good taste and to provide interdisciplinary learning opportunities for them.
Grade 11 (Boys)
Poem Writing Competition that was planned on October 28th is postponed to November due to DSIB inspection.
Arabic Quiz Competition was held on October 28th for grade 8. This competition was an enriching experience for the students. They were able to give answers to the question posed by the judges.
Arabic Quiz Competition (Academic & Culture of UAE) was conducted on October 29th for grade 9. The purpose of the competition for students was to see their level of knowledge particularly with regard to the culture and tradition of the UAE.
Quran Recitation was held on October 29th & 30th for grade 5 & 6 Islamic students. This competition aimed to improve students’ pronunciation and voice modulation. It also helped them to improve their skills in Holy Quran recitation.
Quran Recitation Competition was conducted on October 29th & 30th for grade 7 & 8 boys. Through this competition, Islamic studies students learnt the verses of Holy Quran and recite it in front of judges during their Islamic classes.
Arabic Spelling Competition was held on October 30th & 31st for grade 5 & 6. This competition helped to improve the vocabulary of the students.
ICS Painting Competition was conducted October 31st for grades 8 to 12. Students participated in the international painting competition from India to showcase their talents. Results are awaited.
Our IHSMUN team has participated MUN Conference held in Bits Pilani University, Dubai on October 17th & 18th. This conference provided students an interactive educational experience that teaches in an interesting and enjoyable way about the United Nations. The process affords participants an understanding of how the process of international debate and negotiation that we commonly call diplomacy functions. In this interdependent world, Model UN makes for informed global citizens who not only understand the decisions their nation makes but also how those changes effect politics nationally, regionally, and globally. It also helped them to develop and experience important social skills such as teamwork and group cooperation, conflict resolution, negotiation, consensus-building, critical thinking, public speaking and listening. Our students won 11 awards out of 15 and IHS was recognized for its invaluable contribution. Verbal Mention, Special Mention, Most Commended Delegate, Best Delegate Security Council, Best Position Paper are the awards we received.
Special Presentations of Nottingham Trent University (UK) & University of Pennsylvania (USA), University of California Los Angeles (USA), Rutgers University, Indiana University & Colorado University, Hanze University & University of Groningen (Netherlands), University of British Columbia (Canada) and Indiana University-Purdue University Indiana were conducted on October 1st, 8th, 9th, 16th, 21st & 29th respectively for grade 12. These presentations were an opportunity for students to meet the university representatives and to get knowledge about their programs offer, admission requirements, application process, fee structure and deadline of application.
USA Universities Fair (Linden Tour) was held on October 7th for grade 12. Through this fair, students got an opportunity to meet university representatives. They were informed about their programs offer, admission requirements, application process, fee structure and deadline of application.
A Special Presentation of American University (USA) scheduled on October 13th at Sheraton MOE Hotel for grade 12 Commerce & Science with Maths was cancelled. No students registered in this presentation because they are busy with Midterm exam.
A Special Presentation of Les Roche International School of Hotel Management (Switzerland) was conducted on October 17th for Grade 12 Commerce & Humanities. The purpose of this presentation was to give orientation to students about their programs offer, admission requirements, application process, fee structure and deadline of application.
A Special Presentation of Mahindra Ecole Centrale (India) was conducted on October 24th for grade 12 Science. Students were able to get knowledge about the university’s programs offer, admission requirements, application process & deadlines and fee structure.
Canadian Universities Fair was held on October 28th for Grade 11 & 12. The objective of this fair for students was to meet college representatives and be informed about their programs offer, admission requirements, application process, fee structure and deadline of application.
Aptitude Assessments was started on October 15th for grade 10. The purpose was to test the aptitude of students through an online assessment. Online Aptitude Assessments are ongoing.
A Parent Talk on the topic ‘Literacy & Numeracy Skills’ was held on October 26th for grade 6 & 7 parents whose wards are receiving Learning Centre support. Through this talk, parents got information on Literacy – Describing the characters feelings, Compare & Contrast, Proof Reading. They also understood the Numeracy – Fractions, Decimals & Word Problems.
Workshops were held on October 12th for Senior Secondary Teachers in the subject of Physics (Grade 11 & 12), on October 19th for Senior Secondary Teachers in the subject of Chemistry (Grade 11 & 12) and on October 26th for Secondary School Teachers in the subject of Hindi (Grade 9 & 10). These workshops dealt with question paper setting and handling of HOTS questions pertaining to analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
A Workshop titled ‘A Teacher – A Legend’ was conducted on October 13th for Middle School Teachers in the subject of Science (Grades 6 to 8). The topics that they dealt were bringing our best in students – recognizing & promoting excellence, teacher – a skillful communicator & motivator for high student’s achievements and mistakes teachers should not commit.
